Isla Pandan Resto & Bar: Honda Bay Island Hopping Food Stop Puerto Princesa Palawan
Palawan, Philippines
During our Honda Bay Island Hopping in Puerto Princesa Palawan, the sun and snorkeling activities got us so hungry so we just had to make a food stop at Isla Pandan Resto & Bar.
The set up feels so tropical right?
Food
Meals
Although they had a lot of items on the menu, we really didn't have any choice because only the Chicken Barbecue was available. I wonder if we were just to hungry. But, we really enjoyed this!
Luckily, someone backed out on this order of Grilled Fish so I got it instead. The fish itself didn't have any seasoning so you have to pour some sauce in.
Snacks
The Turon is still hot so we ordered some too.
Compared to the meals, we felt that the Turon was more reasonably priced.
After being exposed to the strong sunlight. We greatly appreciate the Halo-Halo compared to other circumstances we've had one.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
If ever we'll do the Honda Bay Island Hopping, we'll probably skip the meals at Isla Pandan Resto & Bar. It's more economical to just purchase and pack some meals. But, a snack stop would be cool.

Baker's Hill: Tourist Stop for Hopia and Other Pastries (Puerto Princesa Palawan)
Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines
We had a jam-packed itinerary during our Puerto Princesa Palawan trip. As we've researched, Baker's Hill is a popular recommendation as a tourist stop.
There were many pictorial spots in the area before reaching the actual bakeshop.
I initially thought these were real food. But, these are just for display. =(
I could tell from the products that their pastries were had Taiwanese or Chinese influence.
We tried the Taiwanese Bread and Hopia Monggo as they were highly recommended by reviewers. Since we were short of time, these was already our lunch. We did not enjoy this despite our grumbling hungry tummies. Although this may be the best in Puerto Princesa Palawan but this is far below the standards of Chinese Hopia sold in Binondo we've grown to eat.
Update: Just tried their Chocolate Crinkles. Surprisingly, I'd prefer it more than the Hopia Monggo.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Baker's Hill has really nice attractions. Pastries are just okay.

If you ask the locals even our tricycle driver during our Puerto Princesa Palwan trip which is their favorite food place, Elmer's Pares Plaza would be on top of their list. Naturally, to complete our experience we just had to try it out.
They have several brances along Puerto Princesa. If it was just me, I'd be fine with their non-air conditioned main branch along Malvar Street. But being with a companion, I opted it is more proper to dine at their Robinsons Place Mall Palawan branch. It is located in the food court area.
The Imperial Chicken Meal is priced at 135 php. I can't say it was sulit because as you can see the portion looks generous but there's not much chicken meat. It has a semblance of a white chicken but with green onions and fried garlic. I think I'd prefer the white chicken here in Manila which is more moist and tender.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Elmer's Pares Plaza is worth the stop only if it's convenient or you're on a budget. Otherwise, there are so many other better options.

Jam's Canteen: Crocodile Sisig in the Irawan Crocodile Farm (Puerto Princesa)
Puerto Princesa, Philippines
After our Crocodile Tour at Irawan Crocodile Farm and Nature Park in Puerto Princesa, we were so happy viewing the crocodiles that we wanted to eat one! Just kidding! We were really hungry (as we were always hungry) so we went to Jams Canteen for merienda.
It's a simple canteen that you by the ticketing area and souvenir shop so you can't miss it.
The menu is plastered on the wall. As we sat, a lady approached us and took our order.
Food
We only had one order in mind and that was the Crocodile Sisig. It was served in a crocodile designed sizzling platter.
Compared to the usual pork sisig, this is leaner. It's similar to chicken really. But, a bit rougher in terms of texture. I'll probably try more crocodile dishes in the future.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
When at Irawan Crocodile Farm and Nature Park in Puerto Princesa,go ahead and try the
Crocodile Sisig and other crocodile dishes! Make the experience more memorable by satisfying your stomach with an exotic food adventure.

For breakfast, we Tsinoy Foodies decided to hang out at Divine Sweets Bakery and Cafe.
It's has a simple facade of a typical city cake cafe.
The interiors looks a bit like an American diner with red and white motif including its tiled floors.
As hinted by its name, they have cakes and other sweet treats!
They also sell pastries.
The extended area has a different vibe to it. It was darker with dark amber wooden tables and chairs, red linen lofts and red brick walls. This is were we decided to chill as they had a fast and reliable WiFi.
Food
When the food was served, Kurt with his ever playfulness challenged me to a food photography contest. He had so much enthusiasm hat I just had to agree even when I wanted to tell him that he doesn't have to compete with me over everything to impress me anymore and that I never wanted to compete with him in the first place. But, it didn't matter because it was the last...
Main Dishes
Kurt ordered the Lengua in Mushroon Sauce. It's tenderness was impressive. I found the it a bit salty but for Kurt it was just right. He swiped his meal clean with glee. He also took this excellent photo.
Cakes/Cheesecakes
The Lemon Walnut Torte was highly recommended by the tips on foursquare so I ordered it. While I enjoyed the mix match of crunchy and chewy textures, I would have preferred if it had stronger lemon flavors and the sweetness be lightened because I have low sweetness tolerance. But, if you have a sweet tooth, you'll surely love this. This beautiful photo is compliments of Kurt as well.
We really loved the Mango Cake. Seeing me so jolly over this, Kurt was kindly insisted that I enjoy a generous portion.
Iced Coffee
Kurt had the Iced Mocha which was nutty with strong aroma. It was a superb choice for coffee lovers!
Yogurt Smoothies
On the other hand, my Strawberry Yogurt Smoothie was a bit sweet. I would have preferred a more tangy taste to make the yogurt more evident. But, I enjoyed the creaminess.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Divine Sweets Bakery and Cafe is a great place to dine or enjoy some sweet treats. The price is just right for the cozy atmosphere and reliable WiFi.

Our favorite restaurant stop during our Puerto Princesa food trip was Imas Vegetarian Restaurant.
It is a humble kawayan place near our hotel House of Big Brother. It actually looks like an ordinary house just hinted by its sign.
It has filed with square tables covered in table cloth and matching steel chairs.
Food
Salad
For salad, we had the Rojak. It has an addictive spicy dressing. This is super delicious! Even though Kurt hates vegetables, he was so happy with this one.
Mexican Treat
I had the Vegetable Burrito. It looks dull but upon biting into it I was surprised by the boldness of the fresh and crunchy ingredients which was enhanced by the creamy cheese. Kurt gave a thumbs up approval for this too.
Rice Dishes
Kurt ordered the Vege Steak with Potato & Onion. I was really waiting for his reaction on his first spoonful because he has a history of hating Buddhist vegetarian food. Yet, his curled into a smile. He offered some to me and I have to tell you this is one of the best vegetarian dishes I have ever encountered!
Sad to say, we have nothing good to say about the drinks. We've skip this for an additional dish next time. Despite the high pricing compared to food items, it was diluted and lacking in flavor.
Although we don't normally show off our bill, we just want to praise their cute way of presenting it.

Bilao at Palayok Restaurant has a very big pot display which makes it quite noticeable from Rizal Avenue in Puerto Princesa Palawan.
If I recall correctly, we just walked from our hotel to this place.
We were enchanted by the place upon arrival. It had bright lights and native huts.
The decor are made of native materials such as woods carvings, shells, stones, weaving and more.
Every part of the area is well lit too.
It has a bridge and pond which always captivates me.
This is the main dining area.
It has multiple washing area which is also as artsy and has soap and and dryer to boot.
I'm sure you'll find this hand washing stations useful when dining.
For a more private dining, you can opt for the private rooms or the mini kubo (hut). We were ushered to the mini kubo which was outside the main dining area and near the pond. It is equipped with a fan and katol to ward off mosquitoes.
Food
Seafood sa Gata
You'll rarely find me getting my hands dirty and crazy for crabs. But, I swear the Seafood Sa Gata is so good! The crabs were so sweet and juicy and the huge cheesy clams were just as tasty. The gata (coconut milk) was able to enhance the flavor too.
We were quite pleased with the big and generous pot of Vegetable Kare-Kare too. The vegetable were naturally sweet and crunchy. This is one of the best Vegetable Kare-Kare I've ever had and it's so affordable too.
Beverages
For beverage we had a pitcher of Tropical Punch. It was nice and refreshing! It had slices of oranges and apple on it too.
Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Bilao at Palayok Restaurant is a great option to explore Filipino cuisine when in Puerto Princesa. The meals are affordable and good for sharing. They use the finest ingredients in every dish. The ambiance is very nice too.
